Corning Glass Museum and Niagara Falls

One is unheard museum and the other is the most famous waterfall on earth…. It may seem that I am emphasizing more on the falls rather than the museum. Yes! That’s because Falls was our destined location and museum was added visitor attraction on the way.

Right here goes my tour; my tour unveiled!!!!!

It was second Sunday in the month of October. It was 9 degree when I left Los Angeles at 10pm by flight to New York. I reached New York in the wee hours of the morning and caught up with my fiancé and his friends. We reached the place where we were supposed to board the bus. New York was also cold!!On our way we had stopped at many places where we took some snaps. Did not know what was in store for me in Niagara!!! Was just thinking about how it would be and how I would actually react seeing it.

First we went to the Corning glass museum. Amazing pieces of work by different artisans who have excelled in their work. There is a note with every masterpiece. There will be shows also which actually explain the whole process of making glass and glass items.

In fact, we are allowed to make our own glass items here. Anything u wish or architect comes into reality here. Give your dreams a shape here. But one important thing I found lacked in my countrymen after seeing this museum is that we never portray our work. Never!! We do for our satisfaction. The masterpieces are always under darkness. No doubt that the artisans are passionate about their work in which ever country u see. But the fact remains that here they give importance and preserve their passionate items. No matter how old it is. We have failed in maintaining them. Does being an economically developed country help them? How does this actually influence? I am not sure. It is left to the discretion of the reader to analyze. It’s just the flow of my thoughts.
Take a look at some of the master pieces of the corning glass museum..

The winter had just started is what they say. I wonder what they mean by proper winter. The cold there was unbearable. The temp must have been less than 5 degree Celsius. Well my co-Himalayan trekkers would say this is nothing; we have faced temp below zero. Yes, Right!! But being in such a low temp place with water around u makes it even colder. This could be a false impression too. May be I am biased. I donno. I am just feeling am on top of the world after seeing this falls.

The Niagara falls.. I donno why I have ran out of words. Excellent, awesome, what not? I donno what more words I can use to explain this waterfall. My vocabulary is very limited in front of this falls. Wish I had poetic skills. Or atleast wish I was an author with such writing skills. Seeing the jog falls in Karnataka, my friends were awestruck. I bet them that they will be spellbound to visualize this amazing waterfall and its store. Huh!! Well .. I do not wanna give the stats of the falls. Thats available in the internet. If you search, u’ll get the stats.

That evening after we reached Niagara some of us went to the Niagara history movie which I feel is a same repeat of stories we read on internet.
Then had nice dinner in a Punjabi dhaba/restaurant. We were damn hungry since morn as we had not got any proper vegetarian food except the muffins and my useless fiancé had not shopped any food for me J. Believe me I have become so foodie after coming to US. Wonder how this country has changed me. Of course positively only.

We then checked into the room and again assembled in the lobby from where our guide took us to see the night view of the Niagara falls.

From the Canadian side, they have some colours of light like yellow and pink which is lit on the falls. The view was too good. This reminded me our KRS (for those of you who do not know this is a dam in mysore) musical fountains. But here there was no music; only lighting. But the silence of the place was broken by the roaring falls. The chilling wind with the water sprinkle adds to the cold weather. Hmmmmmmmm.. such a nice feeling!!

Slept late and were tired to add to the fatigue, next morn we woke up just 10 mins before the time we were actually supposed to gather at the lobby to leave. Lucky enough. Huh!! Got ready and we were on time. We had paid the ferry charges. We went to the goat island to see the so called Niagara falls.

Three falls are collectively called as Niagara falls-

Horseshoe Falls (The American Falls)
Bride of the veils and
Maid of the mist.

The horseshoe falls and the bride of the veil are towards one side of the goat island. The maid of the mist is towards the other side of the island.
The width of these two doesn’t even stand in par with the maid of the mist.

Of these three I just fell in love with maid of the mist. It has impressed me a lot!!
May be the season we visited made me fall prey to it. Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No end to the exclamation. None can stop the voices that come out from oneself. Everyone will definitely express the happiness seeing the beauty of the falls.

Initially we could not see anything except the mist as it was early morn. The mist had covered the falls so much it looked as though there was fog. As we got closer to the falls we felt as though it started drizzling. That way the falls sprinkled droplets on us! J
The noise made by the falls was so intense. Never imagined!!!

We then joined the queue to get into the ferry. Just then we realized that battery went down and we cannot capture maid of the mist. L L L So what? I have captured it in my eyes and heart ;) We then wore water proof jackets given by the ferry admin and got into the ferry which sailed across towards the Niagara Falls. At the start we saw the horse shoe and bride of the veil falls from closer distance (like about 30-40 feet distance). The current in the water is so enormous that it just drives away even the powerful ferry. There is a hydro electric power station also at Niagara.

Then we sailed across towards the maid of the mist. Huh!! Maid of the mist. From this side, we were able to view the falls. Yeah! See the falls and not the fog like mist which had visually set a veil in front of the falls. The mist was still there in front of the falls but at a dist of some 20 feet. May be we went close to the falls like around 60 feet. We did experience the mist fall on us. It was more or less like rain. These memories will remain fresh in me. Then we got back to new york city and parted our ways. But this was a dream come true trip to me. I will cherish this forever in my life. Forever!!!
